Join us for a day of community, connection, and compassion at Hike for Hospice, an annual event supporting the care provided at Jessica’s House Hospice.

This family-friendly event brings our community together to walk, explore Exeter, and raise funds that ensure hospice care remains free and available for families who need it most.

Whether you join us for the walk, the scavenger hunt, or simply come out for lunch and games, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Registration Opens March 16th!

 

Event Details

Participants will begin the day at the MacNaughton-Morrison Trail Pavilion, where the walk will take place along the beautiful MacNaughton-Morrison Trail.

The community scavenger hunt will also begin at the pavilion and finish at the Exeter Rec Centre, where everyone will gather for lunch, games, and activities.

Starting Location: MacNaughton-Morrison Trail Pavilion – Exeter, Ontario

End Location: Exeter Recreation Centre

Hike Registration: 9a.m -10a.m Hike Walk: 10a.m - 11a.m

Scavenger Hunt Registration: 11:00a.m - 12:00p.m Scavenger Hunt: 12p.m -1p.m

Lunch and Games: 1p.m - 4p.m

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect at Hike for Hospice?

Hike for Hospice is designed to be a fun day for people of all ages. Activities throughout the day include:

  • A scenic walk along the MacNaughton-Morrison Trail
  • A community scavenger hunt through Exeter
  • Lunch, games and activities for all ages at the Exeter Rec Centre
  • Time to connect with friends, family, and community members

What do I need to do at registration for the hike?

  • Register your team on the Canada Helps event page. (stay tuned for this link)
  • If you haven't registered online you can at our registration desk at the event.
  • Any donations you did not collect through your online fundraising page can be dropped off at the event with your pledge form.
  • If you or someone from your team did not sign a waiver form, you can sign one at the registration desk.
  • If you have filled out the waiver when you set up your fundraising page, you have already completed this.
  • If you want to make any additional donations, you will need to fill out donation forms in person. Donations of $20 or more can receive a receipt.

How to register for the Scavenger Hunt!

  • Registration will be held at the MacNaughton Park Pavilion between 11a.m-12p.m
  • There is no cost to participate but a donation would be appreciated. 
  • An online registration form will be available on March 16th. 

How long is the walk?

  • The trail has different loops. You and/or your team are welcome to walk any length you like!
  • The story trail is placed in the story frames on the first loop. You would cross the Sterling Bridge (the first bridge) to see the second half of the story.
  • If you would like to do the longer loop continue on the path and read the second half of the stories when you pass by it on the other side!

What if I can’t make the event in person?

  • If you are unable to attend in person, no worries! Go for your walk wherever you can that weekend!
  • Take a photo for your social media, tag us, and use #JHH2026hike so we can see where you are walking that day!
  • Make sure to check out the story on the trail in Exeter at some point in the following couple of weeks after the event! We would hate for you to miss those great stories!
  • You can walk at any point that day!

Will there be food provided?

  • We will have snacks such as granola bars and bottles of water provided for our participants!
  • We encourage everyone to bring a picnic for your team and enjoy the park after your walk.

How long is the event?

  • The walk starts at 10am. We will make an opening announcement, and then everyone can take their time on their walk.
  • Depending on what length of loop you desire to take will depend on the length of your time on average it takes roughly a hour for the 4km loop. 
  • Scavenger Hunt will run from 12 p.m to 1p.m ending at the Recreation Centre.
  • Light lunch, games and activities will take place at the recreation centre from 1p.m-4p.m
  • Everyone is welcome to come for the full day or for whichever portion of the event they want to attend. 

How can I represent my loved ones who I walk for in their memory at the event?

  • Legacy Wall—We will have a legacy wall where you can fill out a tag and place it on our display. This board will be placed at JHH for two weeks following our event. 
  • At the Recreation Centre in the afternoon you can paint a rock in memory of your loved one. You can take it home with you or we can place it in our garden at Jessica's House. 
  • Be creative and have a team uniform that represents who you are walking in memory of.

What happens if it rains?

  • The event takes place rain or shine! So, dress appropriately!

Despite the chilly weather, our community showed up in a big way on May 31 to support compassionate end-of-life care. From heartfelt walks to live music and warm treats, Hike for Hospice 2025 was a day to remember!
